今天的音频里，the ugly duck 丑小鸭 会遇到一群 swans 。后来丑小鸭终于离开了公猫和母鸡，和那栋温暖、安全但是愚昧的小屋，来到真实的世界里，在这里他还是很孤单。经历了风雨和寒冬过后，他见到一群美丽的天鹅，并且也朝着它们大叫了一声。

《THE UGLY DUCKLING》

• “Delightful , indeed 令人高兴？亏你说得出来!” said the hen 母鸡说,
• “why you must be crazy 你干嘛一定要这么疯!
• Ask the cat 你去问问猫,
• he is the cleverest animal I know他可是我认识的动物里面最聪明的 ,
• ask him 你去问他 how he would like to 他会不会喜欢 swim about on the water 在水面上游来游去, or to dive under it 或者去潜水,
• for I will not speak of my own opinion 省得你说我一个人说话不算数;
• ask our mistress 你还可以去问我们的女主人,
• the old woman 那个老太太 –
• there is no one in the world 这个世界上可再也没有人 more clever than she is 比她更聪明了.
• Do you think 你是不是认为 she would like to swim 她会喜欢游泳, or to let the water close over her head 或者让水淹没她的头顶?”
• “You don’t understand me 你不懂我的意思,” said the duckling 小鸭子说.
• “We don’t understand you 我们不懂你?
• Who can understand you, I wonder 我很好奇谁会懂你！
• Do you consider yourself 你是不是认为自己
• more clever than the cat 比猫还聪明？, or the old woman 或者，比老夫人还聪明?
• I will say nothing of myself 我就不拿我自己来说事了.
• Don’t imagine such nonsense, child 不要胡思乱想, 孩子,
• and thank your good fortune 你要多谢老天，让自己走了好运 that you have been received here 让你被接纳留在这里.
• Are you not 你难道不是 in a warm room 生活在一间温暖的房子里吗？ and in society from which you may learn something 并且周边的人都是有智慧有见识的？
• But you are a chatterer 你啊，就是喜欢啰嗦,
• and your company is not very agreeable 看来你不适合呆在这里.
• Believe me 相信我, I speak only for your own good 我说这些是为你好.
• I may tell you unpleasant truths 我告诉你的这些虽然不好听,
• but that is a proof of my friendship 但那是我作为一个朋友的责任.
• I advise you , therefore 因此，我建议你, to lay eggs 去下蛋吧,
• and learn to purr 并且学着从喉咙里发出呼噜噜的声音，
• as quickly as possible 越快越好.”
• “I believe 我想 I must go out into the world again 我还是出去，再去世界上走走看,” said the duckling 小鸭子说.

• So the duckling 所以小鸭 left the cottage 离开了小屋子,
• and soon found water on which it could swim and dive 很快就找到了可以游泳和潜水的水面,

• Autumn came 秋天来了,

• As they mounted higher and higher in the air 它们在空中越飞越高,
