Write your own: sentences, answers and questions must be in your own words. Pasting someone else’s sentence does not count. - 空着不行，错了可以：留空的答案会被提醒补上；写错的英文会得到修改建议，这本来就是练习的一部分。
Blank is not OK, wrong is OK: a blank answer gets a reminder to fill it in; wrong English gets suggested fixes, which is the point of practice. - 中途离开不丢：今天分到你的短语会保留，刷新页面不会换题，也不会把做了一半的练习清掉。
Leaving does not lose your work: today’s phrases stay assigned to you; reloading does not change them or wipe a half-done exercise. - 语音日志只说自己的事，不说隐私：不要说出真实全名、学校、家庭住址、电话、微信或 QQ。你的语音日志可以在「我的语音日志」里自己查看。
Voice blog: your own life, not your private details: do not say your real full name, school, home address, phone, WeChat or QQ. You can reread your own voice blog under “My voice blog”. - 文明用语：分享和打卡对所有同学可见，不写伤人的话。
Be decent: shares and check-ins are visible to classmates; nothing hurtful.

Sparrow English Basics is the first stop in the English classes: a short set of English drills every day, one step at a time; finish a step, then tap Next. It suits students who are just starting English or who want a steady daily habit. Most of them are children.
Each day has six modules:
- Copy a phrase: copy today’s phrase. Tap a word to see its pronunciation and meaning.
- Memorize phrases: hide the original and write it from memory.
- Build sentences: write your own sentences with today’s phrases, one at a time.
- Answer a question: answer a simple question in English.
- Ask a question: write a question of your own in English.
- Voice blog: the last step. Speak a short paragraph in English; speech recognition turns it into text as your own little blog entry.
You can also see what classmates are working on: copying, sentence building, check-ins. When you finish, the page takes you on to the English Salon.
One full practice (the phrase is only an example)
- Copy: today’s phrase is take a break. You type take a break; tapping break plays its sound.
- Memorize: the phrase is hidden and you write take a brake. The system points out that brake is for stopping a car; it should be break. You fix it.
- Build sentences: you write I take a break after homework., tap Next, write another, then Review and Submit sentences.
- Answer and ask: the question is What do you do after school? You answer I play with my cat. Then you ask your own: Do you have a pet?
- Voice blog: you say into the mic Today I learned “take a break”. I take a break when I feel tired. The recognised text is saved as your entry and you get feedback on your English.
After all six steps, a link to the English Salon appears so you can use today’s sentences there.
