A strong studio piece is short, true, and leaves a little light. Yanzi may fix grammar, but she never invents the student’s experience. One weekly YouTube show collects the week’s pieces.
Write something true. Something you lived or saw yourself.
Four beats: Hook (an action, sound, question or surprise) → Scene (one detail a listener can see or hear) → Turn (say what changed) → Landing (one honest feeling, discovery or question).

Another student reviews your recording. You never review your own. As a reviewer you only choose Approve or Send back, with a fixed reason, and never write to the classmate.

The Podcast is a small recording studio. You write a true, strengthening little story, in both Chinese and English (both versions are required), and send it to Yanzi, who tells you what could be better.

read along with a very slow English model and record yourself;
put your writing on this week’s show page;
talk about the show in the discussion;
sit at the editor desk and listen to a classmate’s recording, then approve it or send it back.
The Radio Square is a public activity log anyone can read. Writing, recording and discussion need sign-in and membership.
Jie wants to write about something small from last week.
He writes the four beats in English: Hook: The bus stopped and nobody moved. Scene: An old man was trying to lift a bag of oranges up the steps. Turn: I stood up before I could think. Landing: I still do not know why I was the only one.
He then writes the Chinese version of the same story. Only with both languages done does he press “Ask Yanzi”.
Yanzi replies: the turn works; the landing could be more concrete, like how the bag felt in your hands. He rewrites the last line.
He reads along with the very slow model twice and records. Only he can play that recording.
He puts the text on this week’s show page. Another student at the editor desk hears a TV behind one of his recordings and sends it back with “someone else can be heard”. He re-records in a quieter room.
