黄英寨往事 HuangYing Fort in the Past

As a teacher in my 50s, I have some much younger friends in my life who are generally under 10, and Joy was one of them. She was nine years old the last time I saw her in the mountain of Huangying Fort, which I took her to go. I keep thinking about her whenever I am in that mountain with other students and their parents, wondering where she went exactly, or to be precisely, which world she went to that day.

Joy was an autistic girl, at the time very few of us had an idea what autism was really like at our inMountains School. As her teacher/coach, I somehow caught her attention after asking her a few questions. She barely looked at anyone’s eyes in a room, but she began to look at my eyes. I guess she felt my respect and understanding toward her.

在那几天营地活动期间,她基本上跟谁都不说话,大多数时间在捉猫、玩猫、找猫。In those days of camping activities, basically she did not talk to anyone, she spent most of her time chasing, playing, looking for a cat.

那只麻猫是我们山水学堂的,我是她的主人,只跟着我走,所以只要有机会就从JOY 的手中溜走。That cat belonged to inMountains School, I was her master, and she only followed me, whenever she had an opportunity, she would try to escape JOY’s hands.
