在上一课里，鸭妈妈把孩子们介绍给了农舍里的其他鸭子成员认识，可是丑小鸭的样子让一些其他鸭子很不待见，要赶他走，鸭妈妈为儿子辩护，保护自己的孩子。

今天的音频里，讲的是关于[the ugly duck 丑小鸭]、[the wild ducks 野鸭群]的故事。

时间：at night, then in the morning 晚上，然后是早晨，地点：a moor 一个湖。我们会讲到，伤心的丑小鸭终于决定离开 farmyard 这个伤心地，离开他的兄弟姐妹和妈妈，他来到了一片湖面，在这里认识了一群善良的野鸭子。

《THE UGLY DUCKLING》

带着问题听故事，第一个问题：为什么 the ugly duckling 飞走了，离开他的妈妈和兄弟姐妹？
第二个问题： 为什么 the wild ducks 不介意丑小鸭和他们一起分享那个湖？

来听故事。

• “The other ducklings 其他小鸭子
• are graceful enough 都够优雅了,”
• said the old duck老鸭子说.
• “Now 现在 make yourself at home 你们随意玩吧,
• and if you can find an eel’s head 对了，要是你们看到一个鳗鱼头,
• you can bring it to me 就把它拿到我这来.”
• And so they made themselves comfortable 现在好了，小鸭子们都挺开心;
• but the poor duckling 但是那只可怜的小鸭子,
• who had crept out of his shell last of all 那只最后才爬出壳的,
• and looked so ugly 还长得很丑的鸭子,
• was bitten and pushed 有人开始打他，推他 and made fun of 有人取笑他,
• not only by the ducks 不仅仅是被鸭子们欺负,
• but by all the poultry还其他的家禽.
• “He is too big 他的个子太大了,”
• they all said 他们纷纷感叹,
• and the turkey cock 那只公火鸡,
• who had been born into the world with spurs 出生时就带着刺,
• and fancied himself really an emperor 装模作样象个皇帝的,
• puffed himself out 突然就冲了出来 like a vessel in full sail 就象一艘张开风帆的船,
• and flew at the duckling 朝小鸭子飞了过去,
• and became quite red in the head with passion 他的头顶因为激动变得红通通的,
• so that the poor little thing 那只可怜的小东西 did not know where to go 吓得手足无措,
• and was quite miserable 他难过极了 because he was so ugly 因为他长得这么丑
• and laughed at by the whole farmyard 它现在被整个农家院里的成员嘲笑.
• So it went on 这种情况一直持续着 from day to day 一天，又一天
• till it got worse and worse 后来越来越糟糕.
• The poor duckling 这只可怜的小鸭子 was driven about by every one 被每个人赶来赶去;
• even his brothers and sisters 即使是他的兄弟姐妹 were unkind to him 也对他不好,
• and would say 他们会说,
• “Ah, you ugly creature 啊，你这个丑八怪,
• I wish the cat would get you 希望那只猫抓到你,”
• and his mother said 他的妈妈也会说
• she wished he had never been born 她希望丑小鸭从来没有出生过.
• The ducks pecked him 鸭子们啄他,
• the chickens beat him 鸡会打他,
• and the girl who fed the poultry 那个喂鸡的姑娘 kicked him with her feet 也会用脚踢他.
• So at last 所以最后 he ran away 他跑了,
• frightening the little birds in the hedge as he flew over the palings 当他扑腾着飞过木栅栏的时候. 还惊起一群树篱笆中的小鸟。

• “They are afraid of me 他们害怕我
• because I am ugly 是因为我很丑,”
• he said 他自言自语.
• So he closed his eyes 所以他干脆闭上眼睛,
• and flew still farther 飞得尽可能远一些,
• until he came out on a large moor 直到来到一个大湖里,
• inhabited by wild ducks 那里住着一些野鸭.
• Here he remained the whole night 他在这里呆了一个晚上 feeling very tired 疲惫不堪 and sorrowful 悲伤不已.
• In the morning 早上,
• when the wild ducks 当野鸭子 rose in the air 飞上天的时候,
• they stared at their new comrade 他们都盯着这个新伙伴.
• “What sort of a duck are you 你是什么品种的鸭子呀?”
• they all said 他们纷纷说,
• coming round him 朝他围了过来.
• He bowed to them 他朝他们鞠了一躬,
• and was as polite as he could be 尽可能地礼貌待人,
• but he did not reply to their question 但是他没有回答他们的问题.
• “You are exceedingly ugly 你真的非常丑,”
• said the wild ducks 野鸭子们说,
• “but 但是 that will not matter 没关系
• if you do not want to marry one of our family 只要你别惦记着娶我们家的哪个姑娘就好了.”

Question 1：

And the answer is:
因为丑小鸭的家人也不支持他，甚至他妈妈也开始说，真希望你没有出生过。这样的话让他很伤心难过。

Question 2:
为什么 the wild ducks 不介意丑小鸭和他们一起分享那个湖？,
my opinion is:
这些野鸭子不是农舍里的家禽，他们没有那么多的坏心眼，不介意丑小鸭生活在这里，只要他不娶野鸭子做妻子。

Question from previous lesson:
为什么 the mother duck 对那只老母鸭说 your grace?，

因为，那只老母鸭是这个家禽社会里的女王，血统最高，英语里，叫女王为 your grace。

昨天第二个思考题：
为什么有一只鸭子要把the ugly duckling 赶出去？，
我认为：
任何一个社会，总有一些肤浅的成员以貌取人，不看人的内在品质，只注重外表。
